Style in Film: God Help the Girl


The movie “God Help the Girl” released in 2014 starring Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, and Hannah Murray. it tells the story of a young women (Browning) who copes with her mental issues by writing and performing songs with her friends (Alexander, Murray). The film is written by and features songs by the Dublin indie pop group Bella and Sebastian.
The film has a cute quirky storyline filled with great music and amazing style inspiration. Also disclaimer: this film may cause you to have a dire need to form your own band even if you possess absolutely no musical ability, I'm just warning you now because i had to find out the hard way.
the story line follows the main characters through the start of their newfound band and friendship and the problems they experience on the way. Although the things i absolutely adored about this film was the music and the clothes. As I mentioned before the songs were written by the group Bella and Sebastian. All the songs have this great indie feel ranging from slow ballads to catchy pop tunes. I highly recommend giving the entire album a listen (as well as any Bella and Sebastian song). Some of my favorite songs include the title song “God Help the Girl”, as well as “I’ll Have to Dance with Cassie”, and “I Just Want Your Jeans” but I honestly could say I love all the songs. All the performers voices (especially Browning's, who've i have been a fan of for years) blend well with the song and just add a beautiful real flair to all the songs.


Now the clothes. this movie is literally a dream for those of us who love vintage style, there is no better way to describe it than by using one of the songs in the film “Perfection as a Hipster”. throughout the entire film i always catch myself saying “I want that!” “Where do I get that jacket?” “That isn't even my style but I still want it!” Browning and Murray both have these amazing costumes that really help show their character. Below are a few of my favorite outfits from the film. (I am still on a rabid goose chase for Murray's tan suede jacket).

My Fall Break: Doing All Things Autumn in One Weekend

Ya this is about a week late, sorry but I've been pretty busy (sadly my senior thesis isn't going to write itself) But I did recently have a great Fall Break back in Ohio. During this break I succeeded in my goal to do all things Fall related. I arrived Friday night, so first on Saturday I went to the farmers market with my friend Jess. Also on Saturday my dad and I went to the Ohio State game (my first time actually attending an OSU game if you can believe it). It was so much fun we walked around beforehand and checked out the tailgating scene. Going to Loyola I miss out on football tailgating so it was great to experience it. We also saw the marching band perform before the game which was also a great experience. The actual game was a lot of fun, even though it was pretty stressful. Goodbye Ohio Hello Chicago! It feels so great to be back in the city to start another school year. Junior year honestly creeped up on me so quickly I'm still in shock.
