A Harry Potter Nerd's Dream: My Weekend in Edinburgh
Land of Braveheart, Nessie, and yes even Harry Potter! I just got back from my weekend in Scotland and it was incredible. I had never been to Scotland before so I was not entirely sure what to expect but what I got out of it was a pretty magical experience.
We took the train there Friday morning and after some confusion about double booking (whoops) we were there! We spent the first day on a walking tour of Edinburgh as well as free time at the Edinburgh Castle. After checking into the hostel my friends and I continued to explore the city. One thing I noticed was the beauty of just about everything single church I saw. European churches will never cease to amaze me.
The next day we went to a deer safari and I had the opportunity to feed the deer. As a girl who has always lived near deer but has never had the opportunity to get close enough to touch let alone feed them, this was a great experience. Once we returned to the city my friends and I continued exploring and decided to check out the highly anticipated Harry Potter sites.
We started at Victoria Street which is rumored to be the original inspiration to Diagon Alley. We then went to Grey Friars Cemetery to look at some of the graves that J.K. Rowling got character names from (McGonagall, Tom Riddle, Moody), near the cemetery is also the Elephant Room which is a cafe where Rowling wrote most of the Philosophers Stone. Lastly we stopped by a few Harry Potter shops where I bought this adorable Luna Lovegood mug.
Even though I spent 2 nights in Scotland by time there seemed very short and before I knew it I was on the train back to London. I would love to go back to Scotland to explore its countryside, check out Loch Ness, and even its other cities such as Liverpool or Glasgow. Even though I can't wait to travel some more I am looking forward to a slight break as I stay in London for the next few weekends.
Do you like Harry Potter? What Harry Potter locations would you want to visit? Let me know in the comments!
