Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart: My Weekend in Paris
Bonjour! I hope you all had a great Valentines Day! I just had the most magical weekend in Paris. I had been to Paris once before when I was pretty young (I'm guessing 5th grade) so it was amazing to go back and actually be able to truly appreciate everything. Our first full day was spent mostly at the D'orsay Museum, and honestly it was probably my favorite part of the whole trip. The museum features plenty of impressionist art from some of my favorite artists including Van Gogh, Degas, and Monet. I literally teared up a little bit at a Van Gogh piece and there was a temporary exhibition dedicated to Degas which could not have been more perfect. We also spent the day walking around the city and taking pictures of everything we could see.
On Saturday we took a day trip to Versailles. By this point it had snowed quite a lot so the entire property was covered it snow. The palace itself was grand, beautiful and so full of history. My favorite part of the estate are the gardens, which still looked breathtaking even in the layer of snow. Later in the day we also went to the Arche de Triomphe and at night we were lucky enough to have an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower lighting up and sparkling on the hour.
Sunday was my last full day in Paris so we spent most of the day exploring the city and checking out the area near the Eiffel Tower and later in the evening I took another trip to Notre Dame (I had also visited it during the day on Friday). Notre Dame and the rest of the city is even more beautiful at night, even with the rain and cold weather. My last dinner in Paris was truly divine with a meal from including champagne and macarons for dessert from Paris's most famous macaron shop. At night I also went to the top of the Eiffel Tower..during a mini snowstorm which was slightly chaotic but beautiful.
Before leaving for our late afternoon train back to London we spent the morning at the Louvre Museum. After a few hiccups (turns out their lockers were not big enough to hold our luggage) we spent the morning going through the museum on our own. I spent most of my time going through the Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities.
I am so thankful for the amazing weekend I had and I am looking forward to the upcoming adventures I will have during my time in Europe.
Do you have a favorite french pastry? Or any questions for me about the city? Let me know in the comments!
