Back Home Feelings
Sorry it has been so long! but with coming back home, then going to Georgia, then returning back home and immediately starting work I’ve been pretty busy. So a little update, I am again working this summer at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio. We have a great new exhibition on display now featuring movie costumes from contemporary Paramount Pictures films (i highly recommend checking it out.)
Before starting work I took a trip to Georgia with my parents where Im pretty sure I ate my weight in seafood (I cant believe I had never had oysters or mussels before now!) Also the meal on the bottom right is actually something I cooked myself! This was a great time to spend some time with my parents after not being able to see them for awhile. We took a day trip to one of my favorite cities, Savannah, where we ate at a raw bar right near the water. It was paradise! And after the weather that England and Ohio had been experiencing I think we all needed a few days at the beach.
I’ve also enjoyed being back in town and being able to see my hometown friends after a few months. I didn't realize how much I would miss them when I was unable to see them during a spring or Easter break. Let me tell you, FaceTime can not compete with sitting in your friend’s car and screaming out the lyrics to your favorite songs. I also have enjoyed having my kitchen back and a full functioning oven! Although already there are things I miss about London. For one thing (and this is the same whenever I leave Chicago for the summer) I just miss being in a city and having so many things easily accessible. Not having the amazing food and stalls of Camden Market near me anymore is definitely a bummer, even though I did miss my mom’s cooking. I’ll also definitely miss how easy it was to travel on the weekends in Europe (not so easy to country hop in the states). No matter how much I miss London though, it is good to be back home with my family and friends. I have also really missed Chicago and my friends there so I am excited to return in the fall for my senior year at Loyola (I know I cant believe it either!!)
Whats the hardest part for you after returning home after a long time away? What does home mean to you? Let me know in the comments!
