Savannah Ooh-Na-Na

Well its almost time for classes to start and that means it is almost time to say goodbye to say goodbye to peach flavored everything and say hello to pumpkin flavored everything. Before going back to Chicago and the Midwest I spent a great day in my favorite southern city Savannah, Georgia.

Savannah is one of my favorite places for a day trip and this trip did not disappoint. My mom and I decided to go on Sunday, partially because that was the day that worked best with our schedules also because we wanted a great brunch! We had brunch at this great place called B. Matthews where I got a veggie scramble (with goat cheese YUM!) and of course its not brunch without a cocktail and instead of my usual mimosa I opted for a strawberry basil bellini which was so refreshing in the Georgia heat.

After brunch we browsed through all the shops on Broughton St, our mutual favorite definitely being the Paris Market shop and cafe. The store was beautiful and had amazing jewelry, accessories, home goods, and a pretty tasty caramel shortbread that I of course had to sample. We also enjoyed all of the other shops including everything from the touristy shops to the boutiques to the places we went into simply to get some free samples. It was also fun to see the new fall line of Kendra Scott jewelry (even if I didn't buy any of it).

After shopping (I walked away with an amazing necklace from the Paris Market) we headed to Leopold's Ice Cream. We were told that we haven't been to Savannah until we've been to Leopolds because it is world famous and a staple in the city. The line was out the door and we waited about half an hour. We figured that if all of these other people were willing to wait it would be worth it...and it was! I got the Chocolate Chewies and Cream, which is vanilla ice cream with pieces of chocolate cookie and pecans in it. There were plenty of cookie chunks and the ice cream itself was amazing. We also got to sit inside in the air conditioning so all in all it was definitely worth it and as passionate lover of ice cream Im so happy I didn't miss out on this treat!

The very last thing we did before leaving was visit the location of where they filmed the famous bust bench scene. The area is called Chippewa Square and is one of several beautiful green space squares in the city. Although the bench he sat on is actually a prop and is not in the square it was still fun to see the area and take some photos.

All in all it was a great day and I could literally walk around Savannah all day just looking at all the buildings and parks. One day I would love to stay overnight in one of the cute inns and B&Bs I always catch glimpses of whenever I am there.

What is your favorite southern city? How would you spend a day in Savannah? Let me know in the comments!
