Chicago to China

Hey! So I am continuing to enjoy my time in Chicago and this past weekend I actually went to Chinatown, which I haven't been to in what feels like forever! It was definitely a fun day and worth the almost hour long El ride.

Even though it is still pretty early in September it is full fledge fall here in Chicago. Thanks to the crisp chill in the air, I am also finally able to bust out my fall wardrobe. And with red being a lucky color in China (which I actually remembered once I got to Chinatown) what would be more fitting than my new red jacket from Target! Seriously Target is still killing it with the clothes! Also worth noting that I have found the perfect spot for #OOTD photos in my building, so if you follow me on social media you can probably expect more of those!

Once we were in Chinatown we basically walked around and checked out some of the stores. They were all full of fun Chinese and Asian souvenirs as well as a few Chicago souvenirs (obviously). We also went into a store dedicated to KPOP which was so fun. Sadly most of these stores did not allow photos but I do have photos of what I ended up buying. Even though I was tempted to buy more I ended up walking away with these hats that give me my 90s/early 2000s aesthetic (2 for $5) as well as some candy from an specialty Asian candy store (The Meiji chocolate was my favorite that I had when I visited Japan).

After shopping we had lunch. As recommended by one of my friends we went to a place that had an all you can eat hotpot. Basically the way it works is that you pay per person and they give you a huge bowl of boiling broth. You then choose the meats and vegetables you would like to add and cook in the broth on the table. We ended up choosing a bunch of veggies (basically over a pound of spinach and a bunch of mushrooms) as well as tofu and different types of seafood (the fish balls were my absolute fave!). Also right when we got to Chinatown in the morning I split a red bean pastry with one of my friends, it was so good, red bean is one of my favorite flavors. The food was really great and definitely filling, I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day!! But I definitely need to get back to Chinatown soon to try even more of the restaurants.

This day was just another great experience in the city I love where there is always something new and exciting to do even after living here for 3+ years!

Have you ever had a hotpot meal? Or been to Chicago's Chinatown? Let me know in the comments!
